Tradies and builders in NSW will be allowed to work extended hours after the state government eased restrictions to help businesses survive the coronavirus pandemic. Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Rob Stokes introduced the “extraordinary orders” under the Planning Act last Thursday, 2nd April. Building sites will now be able to operate on weekends and public holidays.
Mr Stokes said the changes mean tradies and builders will be able to maintain social distancing rules while keeping construction going because they will be able to spread the work across more days. “We’re doing what we can to support the industry in line with current medical advice by extending week day construction hours to weekends and public holidays,” he said.
It means trades people, builders and their employees will be able to work on site for seven days a week over normal operating hours.
